Acceptance of Terms

Welcome to BalanceOne. By creating an account or using our service, you agree to these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you don't agree, please don't use BalanceOne.

Early access notice: BalanceOne is currently in early access (v0.9.0) for pilot users. Features, pricing, and these Terms may change as we develop the platform.


Description of Service

BalanceOne is a personal finance tracking platform that helps you:

  • Track wealth accounts and transactions
  • Organize finances into portfolios
  • Share financial insights with trusted family or friends
  • View spending patterns and balances

What BalanceOne is NOT:

  • Not a bank or financial institution
  • Not a financial advisor or investment platform
  • Not a tax preparation service
  • Not a budgeting tool with enforcement (we show data, you make decisions)

Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old to use BalanceOne. By creating an account, you represent that you meet this requirement.


Account Creation and Security

Your Account

  • Provide accurate, current information when creating your account
  • Keep your password secure and confidential
  • You're responsible for all activity under your account
  • Don't share your account credentials with others

Account Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account if you:

  • Violate these Terms
  • Provide false or misleading information
  • Engage in fraudulent or illegal activity
  • Abuse the service or harm other users

Your Responsibilities

Your Content

"Your Content" means all data you upload: transactions, account names, descriptions, notes, file attachments, etc.

You are responsible for:

  • Accuracy: Ensuring your financial data is accurate (we don't verify or validate it)
  • Backups: Maintaining your own backups of critical financial data
  • Legal compliance: Using BalanceOne in compliance with applicable laws
  • Sharing responsibility: Ensuring you have permission to share financial data with portfolio members

Prohibited Uses

You may not:

  • Use BalanceOne for illegal purposes or to violate any laws
  • Upload malware, viruses, or malicious code
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to our systems or other users' data
  • Scrape, crawl, or use automated tools to access BalanceOne without permission
  • Impersonate others or misrepresent your identity
  • Harass, abuse, or harm other users

Portfolio Sharing

How Sharing Works

  • You can invite others to view or collaborate on your portfolios
  • Portfolio members see only the data you've explicitly shared with them
  • You control member permissions (view-only or edit access)
  • You can remove members anytime

Your Obligations

When you share a portfolio:

  • You're responsible for who you invite
  • You must have permission to share the financial data (e.g., joint accounts)
  • You're responsible for removing members when appropriate (e.g., after a relationship ends)

Shared Data Ownership

  • You own the portfolios you create
  • Portfolio members contribute data (transactions, notes) but don't own the portfolio
  • If you delete your account, your contributions to others' portfolios remain (see Privacy Policy for details)

Intellectual Property

Our Intellectual Property

BalanceOne owns all rights to:

  • The BalanceOne platform, software, and code
  • Our logo, branding, and design
  • Features, functionality, and user interface

You may not copy, modify, distribute, or reverse-engineer any part of BalanceOne without our written permission.

Your Content

You retain ownership of Your Content (financial data, notes, attachments). By using BalanceOne, you grant us a limited license to:

  • Store and display Your Content to you
  • Process Your Content to provide the service (e.g., calculate balances, generate reports)
  • Share Your Content with portfolio members you've invited

We will not use Your Content for any other purpose (e.g., advertising, selling data) without your explicit consent.


Privacy and Data Protection

Your privacy is important to us. Our Privacy Policy explains:

  • What data we collect
  • How we use and protect your data
  • Your rights and choices

By using BalanceOne, you also agree to our Privacy Policy. Privacy Policy.


Disclaimer of Warranties

BalanceOne is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind.

We do not guarantee that:

  • BalanceOne will be error-free, uninterrupted, or secure
  • Your data will always be accurate or up-to-date (you're responsible for accuracy)
  • BalanceOne will meet your specific needs
  • Any bugs or issues will be fixed

Financial disclaimer:

  • BalanceOne is a tracking tool, not financial advice
  • We make no recommendations about your finances
  • Always consult a qualified financial advisor for financial decisions
  • We are not responsible for financial losses based on data in BalanceOne

Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, BalanceOne and its team are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service.

This includes (but is not limited to):

  • Data loss or corruption
  • Financial losses based on inaccurate data
  • Downtime or service interruptions
  • Security breaches (though we work hard to prevent them)
  • Disputes between portfolio members

Limitation of Damages

Our total liability to you for any claim is limited to:

  • Free tier: AUD $100 or the amount you've paid (currently $0), whichever is greater
  • Paid tier (future): The amount you've paid in the last 12 months

This limitation applies even if we've been advised of the possibility of damages.


Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold BalanceOne harmless from any claims, losses, or expenses (including legal fees) arising from:

  • Your use of BalanceOne
  • Your violation of these Terms
  • Your violation of any laws or regulations
  • Disputes with portfolio members
  • Inaccurate or misleading data you provide

Pricing and Payment (Future)

Current status: BalanceOne is currently free during early access (v0.9.0).

Future pricing: We plan to introduce paid plans in the future. When we do:

  • Free tier will remain available with limitations
  • Paid plans will offer additional features (e.g., more portfolios, advanced analytics)
  • We'll notify you at least 30 days before charging
  • You can cancel anytime before charges begin

Service Availability

Early access disclaimer: BalanceOne is in development. We may:

  • Experience downtime or service interruptions
  • Make breaking changes to features
  • Add, modify, or remove features without notice

No uptime guarantee: We do not guarantee 99.9% uptime or any specific availability target during early access.

Maintenance: We may perform scheduled maintenance with or without advance notice.


Data Backup and Loss

Your responsibility: You're responsible for maintaining backups of critical financial data.

Our backups: We perform automatic backups, but these are for disaster recovery, not individual data restoration.

No guarantee: We cannot guarantee that your data will never be lost. While we take precautions, hardware failures, bugs, or other issues could result in data loss.

Export your data: Use the data export feature (coming soon) to maintain your own backups.


Third-Party Services

BalanceOne integrates with third-party services (Supabase, Vercel, Resend). These services have their own terms and privacy policies. We're not responsible for their actions or policies.

Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make significant changes, we'll notify you by email or through the app.

Continued use: By continuing to use BalanceOne after changes take effect, you agree to the updated Terms.

  • v0.9.0 (February 15, 2026): Early access version for pilot users

Termination

You Can Leave Anytime

You can delete your account anytime from Settings → Data & Privacy (coming soon). See our Privacy Policy for what happens to your data. Privacy Policy.

We Can Terminate Your Account

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account if:

  • You violate these Terms
  • Your account is inactive for an extended period (we'll notify you first)
  • We discontinue BalanceOne (we'll provide reasonable notice)

Effect of Termination

When your account is terminated:

  • You lose access to BalanceOne and your data
  • Your data will be deleted per our Privacy Policy (30-day grace period, then permanent deletion)
  • These Terms remain in effect for past use of BalanceOne

Dispute Resolution

Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Australia (New South Wales). Any disputes will be resolved in the courts of New South Wales.

Informal Resolution

Before filing a claim, please contact us at support@balanceone.app to try to resolve the issue informally. support@balanceone.app


Miscellaneous

Entire Agreement

These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and BalanceOne. Privacy Policy.

Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions will remain in effect.

No Waiver

Our failure to enforce any provision of these Terms does not waive our right to enforce it later.

Assignment

You may not transfer your rights under these Terms. We may assign our rights to a successor or affiliate.
